Contemporary Issues Dialogues 2009—3:30 At the Women’s Club

Week One
July 5, 4-5PM
William Black, an assoc. Prof. of Economics and Law at the Univ. of Missouri-Kansas City. He was the Ex. Director of the Institute for Fraud Prevention from 2005-2007. He will be discussing the alarming story about financial-and political-corruption. How dishonest CEOs, crony directors, and corrupt middlemen can systematically defeat market discipline and conceal deliberate fraud.

July 8, Wednesday    Donald Johanson, discoverer of “Lucy”fossil, Director of Human Origins.  AMP speaker on July 9

July 15, Wednesday  Brig. General Loree Sutton, M.D.  Director of Dept. of Defense Center of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury, highest ranking psychiatrist in the US Army.

Week Four

July 22, Wednesday  William Niskanen, chairman emeritus, senior economist, Cato Institute, speaking on the Ethics of Capitalism

Week Five

July 29, Wednesday  Ralph Williams, prof. of English, language and literature, Univ. of Michigan. What makes us Moral?

August 5, Wednesday Richard Brown, prof. of “Movies 101,” New York University

Week Eight
August 19, Wed. Julia Sweig, Council on Foreign Relations, expert of Cuba

Week Nine,  At the Athenaeum
August 26, Wed.         Colonial Williamsburg actors Thomas Jefferson and Lafayette “What is it like to be someone else?”
